Basecamp gives us a great way to manage our projects, from both an overall perspective right down to the minutiae of individual tasks. As a request to my clients, I’d like to ask everyone to make use of the To-Do section of Basecamp whenever you have new work that needs to be done and I’d like to briefly explain what that To-Do section should look like for any given task.

Say, you need me to create a new page for your site containing newsletter subscription information. You would go to the To-Do section of Basecamp, and create a new list by clicking the ‘New to-do list’ button on the right-hand side of the page. First, you will be asked to give the list a name. When you name the list, please make it as specific and relevant as possible.

In this instance, we’d want to name the to-do list something like “Create newsletter subscription page”. Then, you have the option of listing a description or any notes about the list itself which you feel might help elaborate on your specific needs. Suggestions for this would be something like listing the importance of the task (emergency, high priority, low priority, whenever you can get to it, etc).

You then click ‘Create this list’ and you’re taken to the main list page where you can begin adding individual task items to the new list you just created. You can also assign responsibility for any given item to a particular person on the project team. In most cases, that will just be me, so, no worries there.

A sample list of items for a project such as the newsletter subscription page, as mentioned above, might be:

Add signup box for newsletter

Make sure the subscribe button says “Get our newsletter!”

Please add fields to capture name, email and format preference

When you’re done adding items to the list, simply click the link ‘I’m done adding items’.

I would appreciate your cooperation in working with me in this manner. I’m currently so busy trying to manage so many different projects that the random email with the odd request is too often falling by the wayside. Adding your project requests to Basecamp in the manner described above will help in so many ways as I do my best to plow through my daily workload and continue to meet the needs of all of my clients.

Thanks for your time and thanks for reading.

The website is also being updated and worked on quite a bit as time allows, so if you notice anything that looks funny, please be patient as we work out all the little details.
